LEVYdance announced Keanu Forrest Brady as its newest Company Artist at its 16th Annual Celebration April 14, 2018.
Keanu joins Company Artists Kristen Bell, Michaela Burns, and Chinchin Hsu as the company celebrates its 16th anniversary.
Audiences first saw Keanu in the 2016 LEVYdance production "the invitation: lies and other truths" and later in several LEVYsalon showcases. Keanu has also worked as a Guest Artist for Sara Shelton Mann, Stephan Koplowitz of Axis Dance, and has been invited to perform at both the San Francisco International Dance Festival and the 2018 Fresh Festival.
"I'm thankful for LEVYdance," Keanu said. "They give me a lot of space to explore artistically, which I really appreciate in a company. They really hold space for vulnerability to happen – that's something very rare."
Originally hailing from Salt Lake City, UT, Keanu's nomadic upbringing with his single mother and two siblings meant moving a total of 76 times before the age of 25. This constant state of movement, adaptation, separation and family deeply informs his relationship with dance. Finding dance at 15, his relationship with dance began through an initial exploration of hip-hop, break dancing, and his improvisational body. At age 18, Keanu was accepted to and attended the University of Utah at Salt Lake where he studied Modern Dance until moving east to teach at Vermont's Middlebury College in 2015.
Prior to his move to the Bay Area, Keanu worked as Artistic Director of Akoya, a performing and teaching modern dance company based in the hip RiNo district of Denver, CO, and as a dancer/collaborator for the newERA Creative, a Denver-based creative agency exploring social movements through mixed media.
